Embrace low-emission logistics solutions for a more sustainable tomorrow

To decarbonize logistics, we have set the following near-term science-based target: reduce absolute scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions 33% by 2030 (from a 2019 base year).

Caring about the future of our planet is a crucial topic that we need to address today to ensure a liveable future for tomorrow.

As the logistics industry contributes roughly 8% of the CO2e emissions worldwide, we need—and want—to effect change.

Kuehne+Nagel is committed to actively reducing our transportation CO2e emissions and developing solutions to support our customers with their carbon reduction journey.

Together with our partners, we invest in sustainable solutions to address climate change. We are guided by our commitments to the science-based targets to decarbonize the logistics sector. Our goal is to create a healthier future for all.

Our key objectives to reduce CO2e emissions in transport:

  • Maintain effective carbon management throughout all operations

  • Provide low-emission logistics solutions and offerings to our customers

  • Procure logistic services based on environmental criteria

We are addressing CO2e reduction in all of our transport and logistics services worldwide with the overall goal to reduce absolute direct and indirect GHG emissions (scope 1, 2 and 3) 33% by 2030 (from a 2019 base year)

Our journey comes with a commitment to customers, including solutions to reduce their supply chain CO2e emissions. We do this with digital solutions and predictive analytics that support the selection of more sustainable transport routes and modes.

Embracing low-carbon logistics

Our path to a low-carbon future includes visibility, avoidance and reduction.

Visibility

Understanding our CO2e footprint across the supply chain is essential. Digital platforms help customers optimize routes and select low-emission services with full transparency on CO2e emissions for their shipments.

Avoidance and reduction

Avoiding and reducing carbon emissions starts with data analysis and implementing training programmes to maintain and expand awareness. It continues with modal switch solutions, the implementation of more efficient transport routes and the use of biofuels.

In support of reducing CO2e emissions in transportation, we are a member of initiatives by:

The transport industry and its partners and customers recognize the importance of decarbonization in helping reach the Paris Agreement goals, which Kuehne+Nagel fully supports. The Paris Agreement’s goal is to hold the rise in global average temperatures this century to well below 2°C (ideally 1.5°C) above pre-industrial levels.
