An urgent request with no room for delay
On 20 May, an urgent request from a leading organ transplantation technology provider reached Kuehne+Nagel's MedTech Competence Centre in Doesburg, the Netherlands. A donor heart needed to travel to a leading children’s hospital in London for a child’s surgery planned for the following day.
Advanced organ preservation technology kept the donor heart viable during transport and with the procedure already scheduled, every step had to work the first time.
We made this shipment our top priority and immediately set everything in motion to avoid any delay to the UK, because a delay could cost a life.

Solving customs and transport in parallel
The Dutch team found that key customs clearance details were missing and requested the additional information needed from the customer. At the same time, they worked to secure a temperature-controlled van for the journey to the UK.
The customer's warehouse team prepared the shipment for immediate release as soon as the documentation was cleared and the vehicle arrived.
A last-minute courier solution
As the deadline approached, coordination between Kuehne+Nagel and the customer intensified. Mark Meurkes, our Road Logistics Dispatching Forwarding Specialist, arranged a last-minute courier solution, allowing the shipment to depart without delay.
The pressure eased once next-day delivery was confirmed but only lifted fully when the shipment arrived at the hospital safely and on time. The surgery could go ahead as planned.

We made a huge difference for this family.
Customer feedback shared with the Kuehne+Nagel team
More than moving goods
For the family, the successful delivery turned uncertainty into hope. For the customer, it strengthened trust in the team’s expertise and commitment. For everyone involved, it was a reminder that logistics can have an impact far beyond the shipment itself.
