Why sustainability matters in logistics
Sustainable logistics goes a level beyond moving goods to connect people, support communities, and protect the planet.
Guided by Vision 2030, we embed environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles as one of our cornerstones into our strategy, operations, and partnerships.
When customers set ambitious science-based targets, we’re committed to helping them succeed. By reducing emissions, scaling low-emission transport, and upholding inclusive, transparent practices, sustainability becomes a driver of innovation and growth.
Sustainability is a core commitment at Kuehne+Nagel. With operations across every mode of logistics, we have both the responsibility and the opportunity to build supply chains that deliver for businesses, people, and the planet.
ESG practices are a cornerstone of our growth. Our customers look to us as a partner to achieve their sustainability goals.

How we act sustainably
Environment
Kuehne+Nagel has set ambitious goals to reduce environmental impact, including the science-based target to reduce absolute scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions 33% by 2030 (baseline 2019), achieving 100% renewable energy consumption at all sites by 2030, and reaching net zero by 2050.
We promote everyday sustainability through low-emission transport solutions, sustainable logistics, fleet electrification, renewable energy, circular waste management, warehouse and office efficiency, and more.
Social impact
For us, sustainability goes beyond logistics to community impact, including innovative social projects in over 30 countries.
We foster a safe, inclusive and supportive workplace for almost 85,000 employees in almost 100 countries. We promote equality, diversity, and inclusion at all organisational levels, and we protect employees with confidential reporting lines and employee human and labour rights.
Governance
We uphold high ethics and compliance standards, with a Supplier Code of Conduct, transparent reporting aligned to global frameworks (UN Global Compact, GRI, TCFD), and clear policies and mechanisms to ensure accountability and ethical operations.
Let's act together for impact
While these steps we take as an organisation are important, real progress happens through partnership. We collaborate with customers and suppliers to scale sustainable solutions; industry alliances for decarbonisation and logistics innovation; and communities and NGOs for meaningful engagement and support.
Our ESG strategy
Recognised reporting standards
We ensure transparency, credibility, and accountability by aligning our sustainability disclosures with globally recognised frameworks.
Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)
Our sustainability reporting is prepared in accordance with the GRI Standards, offering clear, comprehensive, and comparable insights into our environmental, social, and governance performance.
Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)
We follow the TCFD recommendations to identify, assess, and disclose climate-related risks and opportunities. This strengthens business resilience and enables stakeholders to understand how climate considerations are embedded in our strategy and decision-making.
Emission reporting
Our emissions are calculated in line with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol, the Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC) Framework, and ISO 14083:2023. All greenhouse gas data is verified annually by an independent third-party auditor to ensure accuracy and integrity.
ESG ratings
Recognition from leading ESG rating agencies underscores our commitment to responsible business and transparent reporting. We continually enhance performance to ensure our sustainability actions remain ambitious, credible, and effective.
