Kuehne+Nagel will participate in two pioneering projects

This will support the UK’s net zero ambitions by transitioning heavy goods vehicles to zero emissions.

Kuehne+Nagel UK is a partner in two consortiums within the UK Government’s £200m funded ‘Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator Programme’. This will support the UK’s net zero ambitions by transitioning heavy goods vehicles to zero emissions.

In partnership with Innovate UK, the investment will deliver approximately 370 zero emission trucks and around 57 refuelling and electric charging sites through four consortiums, providing crucial investment to help the UK haulage sector decarbonise.

  • Kuehne+Nagel UK will operate a share of zero emission trucks through the UK Government’s new ‘Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator Programme

  • The fleet will be supported by a new network of public eHGV chargers and investment into Kuehne+Nagel’s own fast-charging infrastructure across the UK

  • Kuehne+Nagel, alongside consortium partners, will collaborate with GRIDSERVE and Voltempo on two innovative projects

Kuehne+Nagel UK and associated haulier partners, will feature in two consortiums:

Electric Freightway - led by GRIDSERVE, will deploy a fleet of eHGVs on the UK’s roads supported by a new network of charging infrastructure. It will lay the foundations for the biggest and most advanced eHGV charging network in the world, reshaping how goods are transported ahead of the UK’s 2040 Zero Emission HGV pledge.

eFREIGHT 2030 - led by Voltempo, will introduce 32 new charging locations with megawatt-charging capacity, to power eHGVs and innovative ‘e-trailers’, using AI technology. The project will also provide eHGVs for small and medium-sized (SME) British hauliers within the Kuehne+Nagel supply chain.

Feedback and data from these demonstrations will be collected from 2025 to 2030. This will inform the Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator Programme on an ongoing basis and provide insights into the use of eHGVs that will support the transition to electrified fleets and increase operator and customer confidence.
